What Is Technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the foundation under everything else: whether Google can crawl your site, which pages it indexes, how fast they load, and whether your structured data describes the business correctly. Technical problems rarely announce themselves. The site looks fine, the pages load, and a quarter of them are quietly not indexed.

That is why a technical SEO audit is usually where I start. Content and links pointed at pages Google cannot see are wasted.

What My Technical SEO Audit Covers

  • Crawling and indexing: pages excluded from Google, crawl traps, redirect chains and orphan pages nothing links to.
  • Site speed and Core Web Vitals: what is actually slowing the site down, from page builder bloat to oversized images and render-blocking scripts.
  • Site architecture: how deep important pages sit, and whether the structure makes sense to a crawler.
  • Duplicate content: near-identical suburb pages, parameter URLs and canonical tags pointing the wrong way.
  • Structured data: schema that is missing, broken or contradicting itself.
  • Mobile usability, XML sitemaps and robots rules.

Structured Data And Schema Markup

Schema tells search engines and AI assistants exactly what your business is, where it operates and what each page offers. On many small business sites it is either missing or emitted three times by three plugins, each saying something different. I clean it up so every page carries one accurate description.

It is also the groundwork for AI search optimisation. In this case study, structured data and entity clarity helped an electrical contractor reach 125,000 AI-search impressions in a quarter.

Fixes, Not Just A Report

An audit that lists two hundred warnings is not useful. You get the problems ranked by what they cost you, and then I fix them, on WordPress, Elementor, Astro or whatever your site runs on. Every change is logged and reversible.

How Technical SEO Fits With The Rest

Once the foundation is sound, on-page SEO and local SEO have something to build on. If a site is genuinely beyond repair, a website rebuild with the technical side done right from the start can cost less than patching it.

How My Technical SEO Process Works

  1. 01

    Crawl

The whole site, rendered, compared against the sitemap and against what Google has actually indexed.

  2. 02

    Diagnose

Issues ranked by what they cost. A noindexed service page matters, a missing alt tag on a footer icon does not.

  3. 03

    Fix

Applied at the source, in the theme, plugin or template, rather than patched page by page.

  4. 04

    Verify

Every changed page re-checked live, and the structured data re-validated.

Technical SEO FAQ

Technical SEO Questions, Answered

Not covered here? Ask me directly .

What is a technical SEO audit?

A full crawl and review of how search engines access, read and index your site. It finds the problems you cannot see from the front end, such as unindexed pages, duplicate content and broken schema, and ranks them by how much they are costing you.

My site is on WordPress with Elementor. Is that a problem?

Not by itself. Page builders add weight and sometimes duplicate structured data, but both are manageable. Most of what I find on Elementor sites is configuration, not the platform.

Do I need to rebuild my site to fix technical SEO?

Usually not. Most technical faults can be fixed in place. If a rebuild would genuinely cost less than the fixes, I will tell you, and explain why.

Will technical SEO fixes break anything?

Every change is tested, documented and reversible. Nothing goes live on your site that cannot be rolled back.

How often should a technical SEO audit be done?

A full audit once, then lighter checks every few months and after any redesign, migration or major plugin change. Most damage happens during changes nobody was watching.
